04 Lafayette

The whining and peevish French dandy known as “the Marquis” de Lafayette, a target by many who don’t know how to pronounce French titles, determined  not to be outdone in American history as well as in Elk Ridge  specifically, and so posed for this formal portrait while he was in town.

It is known as the “Detoured Nose Portrait” because the artist ran out of canvas.    His cronies refer to it as  “Ole Spigot.”   Otherwise, it is a great likeness.
